Vintage Pomegranate
The pomegranate is an ancient fruit native to Iran, Afghanistan, India and Pakistan among others. The pomegranate was introduced into California by Spanish settlers in 1769 and is now cultivated in there and in Arizona for its juice.
The edible fruit has about 600 seeds. Fruitless varieties are grown for their flowers alone in ornamental gardens. Pomegranate juice contains vitamin C and B5, potassium, tannins and flavonoids. In 2010 there were 23 registered clinical trials with the National Institutes of Health to study the health benefits of pomegranate juice.
