Vintage Birds

I have some lovely birds for you today

This first one is an Asian inspired peacock and it really reminds me of the American calligraphy birds.  This vintage design might have been used to decorate fabric, tiles, ceramics or metalwork.

This is a drawing of a Northern Oriole or Baltimore Oriole and it is the state bird of Maryland.  It was named after Lord Baltimore because its colors matched those of Lord Baltimore's coat of arms.

The two birds in the foreground are males with the female sitting in the back.  They migrate in flocks from the northeastern part of America to as far south as South America although some orioles do stay near feeders.  Their nests are tightly woven pouches located on the end of branches.  Their diet consists mainly of insect but they are often found at hummingbird feeders.
